Renovated Lower Deck and New Larger Upper Deck in Falls Church VirginiaPosted by woodmin in Untagged |
This project is in Falls Church Virginia. We removed the decking and railing from the lower deck and completely removed the existing upper deck which had support posts in the middle of the lower deck. We installed new decking and railing on the lower deck and built a new larger upper deck. The upper deck was designed to not have support posts taking up the valuable deck space of the lower deck.

Sun & Rain Protection Porch in Leesburg VirginiaPosted by woodmin in Untagged |
This project is in Leesburg Virginia. The existing deck which featured a pergola offered no real sun protection. It is very important during the design phase to consider if and how much sun protection is needed. A pergola can offer sun protection but it must be designed to do that. Many builders and homeowners think just by building a pergola you will have that protection. This is not the case. We removed the pergola and installed an open hip roof porch with a beaded finished ceiling. All of the trim is low maintenance PVC. The end result enables the homeowner to have both sun and rain protection.

Re-screening and re-staining deck in Lansdowne VirginiaPosted by woodmin in Virginia , screens , porches , porch staining , porch screen , Lansdowne , Cabot stain |
We built this porch several years ago in Lansdowne Virginia. It was time to rescreen and re-stain. After removing the screen and cleaning the wood surfaces we applied Cabot semitransparent stain to the previously stained areas. It came out great.

This deck was built in Arlington Virginia. We used low maintenance Trex Transcend decking and railing. The railing had low voltage rail post lighting and the decking was installed with a basketweave decking floor pattern. To finish things off a vinyl lattice skirt was also installed. In the spring a stone patio is planned.

This project involved an existing front porch in Loudoun County Virginia. The existing trim and some of the structural members were rotting. We replaced the rotting structural members and also replaced the railing and trim with low maintenance materials. After pointing up the walkway the project looked brand new.

The deck was built in Leesburg Virginia. Low maintenance Trex Transcend decking and railing, PVC fascia and PVC column wraps were used for all support posts. In addition, a sunken hot tub, as well as a raised deck area with a trellis was designed into the project to take advantage of the beautiful views.

This deck was built in an historic district of Arlington Virginia. We not only had to obtain the building permit but also had to deal with the historic review process. We were allowed to use Evergrain composite decking but no composite railing or PVC was allowed. The support posts had to be oversized and the railing had to meet the historic guidelines. Cabot solid color stain was used to match the deck to the existing trim.
